Pre Prep Department (Years 1- 3)We believe that each child is an individual capable of great things, and we feel that it is very important for pupils to be happy and enjoy school. The Pre Prep department offers a stimulating and challenging curriculum that successfully combines high standards and the best of traditional and modern methods, a first class education. We aim to develop high levels of attainment in literacy and numeracy; skills in observation, information seeking, posing questions and problem solving.
Also important is the development of abilities to apply knowledge and skills and to work both independently and co-operatively.
In Year 3 we start introducing French in fun and interesting ways, through song and word games. This early introduction exposes the children to other languages when they are at their most receptive, and prepares them for the more formal study of the language higher up the school. Numbers in class groups are small and each Year group has their own class teacher in their own classroom block. Children who may be experiencing learning difficulties will benefit from the extra attention they receive in our small classes. All members of staff are qualified to teach every Year group and the pupils also have the advantage of being taught by specialist teachers in science, music and PE. Computer skills are taught both in classrooms and the Junior ICT laboratory where each pupil has access to their own computer. Pupils enjoy working with each other at the major events during the school Year. We are a small school benefiting from a close family atmosphere where everyone knows each other, older pupils often coming to help in their free time. Visiting speakers, theatre groups and trips out to St Fagans and Techniquest all contribute to the wider curriculum.
Our children are encouraged to think of others, through participating regularly in local and national charity events. In Year 3 pupils will have the opportunity to represent the school in a variety of sporting fixtures against local primary schools. After school activities, tea and supervised homework sessions are available and we run a holiday club during school vacations. We aim to make our pupils confident, successful and happy, ready to move smoothly into the next department of the school.
