Once again St John’s proved it has the “value-added factor” when Year 11 students received their GCSE results. Overall 42% of all results were at Grades A* or A, compared to the national average of 22%. Particularly pleasing were James Kearle and Bethanie Denyer who followed in last year’s Head Boy’s and Head Girl’s footsteps by achieving 9 A*s and As each, best results in school. Bethanie should be especially congratulated as not only did she achieve her Mathematics GCSE at grade A when she was in year 10, but also this year she achieved Statistics and her Sciences amongst her 7 A*s. Bethanie also achieved a pass in a free-standing additional further mathematics qualification.

Pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 accompanied by Mrs. Sarll, Mrs. Price and Mrs. Bessell recently visited our Celtic Comenius cousins in Waterford, Southern Ireland. They all visited our partner school, Gaelscoil Philip Barun and were given an insight into Gaelic speaking school.
Pupils and teachers sat in on a Gaelic lesson (and didn’t understand a word!) and our pupils took part in a 5 nations football tournament, as well as trying the Irish sport of hurling. (Mrs. Bessell got really stuck in with this!) Chloe and Bethan from Year 4 stayed with the school’s headmaster and his family and Amy and Alys stayed with another host family.
All four girls were looked after brilliantly and were taken out on trips to the beach and the local fairground.

Yesterday we proudly hosted the sponsored toddle for Barnardo’s. Local nurseries joined us for a walk around our grounds and thankfully the sun was shining! The children were treated to milkshakes, cakes and fruit at the finish line and each child received a goody bag to take home.
We would like to thank Ty Tanglwyst D
airy for sponsoring the goody bags for each child. The money raised will be given to Barnardo’s who support local projects which help disadvantaged under 5s to learn and play.
A fun time was had by all!

Year 6 had a good time on the History trip to Swansea Museum. We learnt a lot about World War 2 and how devastating the bombs were. It was really interesting to find out how evacuees felt, what they took with them and how they changed whilst they were away from their parents. We had fun on our tour around the Museum and Scott and James especially liked the xray and film about the Egyptian Mummy.

Each governor brings specific talents and expertise to support the running of the school. The Governing Body shares the school vision of developing the individual child to their potential academically and developing confidence within a disciplined framework.
