Roles & Responsibilities

Chair

• Responsible for effective governance of St. John’s School Porthcawl
• Support the Head Teacher – meet 1:1 every 2-3 weeks
• Chair meetings of the Governing Body
• Ensures the Governing Body keeps to the school development plan
• Oversees disciplinary proceedings & grievances
• Oversees appointment of Governors
• Oversees allocation of governors to sub-committees
• Undertakes appraisal for the Head Teacher
• Manages appointment of new Head Teacher & may sit on the interview panel for new staff
• Pro-active in succession planning
• Ensures that an Annual Report from the Governors is written

Financial Lead

• Recommend the school’s annual budget & departmental budgets
• Advise on Fee Increases
• Review the schools expenditure against income
• Monitor the school reserves & long term investments
• Meet with the Bank Manager when necessary
• Autumn (half term) sign off previous years accounts & appoint auditors for next year/ review previous year’s financial performance
• Spring – review and approve budget & set fees/review autumn terms financial performance
• Summer – confirm budget at half term for new year/review spring term’s financial performance
• Communicate/Advise the full governing body on all financial issues related to St. John’s School Porthcawl
• Contributes information for the Annual Report

Education Lead

• Support staffing & curricular changes
• Advise the governing body on Professional Issues
• Occasionally observe lessons
• Act as the Lead for Governors in preparation & during Estyn Inspections
• Contributes information for the Annual Report

Marketing Lead

• Set an annual marketing Action Plan
• Ensure the Action Plan is delivered
• Advise on income generation
• Chairs sub group for marketing & reports to the main governing body
• Contributes information for the Annual Report

Health & Safety Lead

• Establish an action plan for regular visits to inspect the school premises & grounds working closely with the Bursar
• Co-ops experts e.g. – plumber, electrician, structural engineer, roofer etc to advise on specific areas within the school, as required.
• Ensure that an annual refurbishment plan is in place & adhered to
• Checks the school is compliant with regulations – fire safety, security, health & safety etc.
• Undertakes regular inspections of the school premises & advises the main governing body of any issues of concern
• Contributes information for the Annual Report

Pastoral Lead

• Ensures that the Physical, Mental & Spiritual well being of pupils their families and staff are cared for within the school
• Arrange for planned & unplanned visits to the school to assess the above
• Contributes information for the Annual Report

Safeguarding Lead

• Is able to give the Head Teacher support & advise in relation to the All Wales Procedures
• Ensures that CRB checks are made for all Governors & Staff working in the school
• Contributes information for the Annual Report

Legal Lead

• Is able to give the Governing body support & advise in relation to Legal Matters
• Contributes information for the Annual Report

  • Taster Days

    We welcome prospective pupils to our free taster days. We also regularly hold Parent and Toddler sessions in our Nursery, as well as our termly Open Day when it is possible to visit the whole school .
