Governing Body
The Governing body at St.John’s School Porthcawl must share the vision of developing the individual child to their potential academically whilst encouraging personality and developing confidence within a disciplined framework. This is to be achieved in conjunction with the Head Teacher.
Composition
The Governors at St. Johns School Porthcawl
• Must act in the interest of the school as a whole
• Will be selected for their specific talents & expertise, which they can bring to the school. It is essential that there are lead members for Education, Finance, Marketing, Legal Matters, Health & Safety, and Pastoral Care.
• There should be a minimum of 10 members that make up the governing body (at least one of whom should be a current parent) who are formally appointed following an interview process.
• A Governor is expected to serve for 5 years – attend a minimum of 3 meetings & 3 other events at the school annually.
• The Governors on an annual basis elect the Chair of Governors. Who is responsible for effective governance of the school & supporting the Head Teacher.
Meetings
• A Governing Body meeting should take place each half term (bi-monthly)
• At an Annual General Meeting an Annual Report should be presented.
• The agenda should always contain – minutes of the previous meeting – Head Teachers Report – Financial Report – Bursars Report & any Reports from Sub Committees.
• Each Governor must be a member of a sub group and attend & contribute to those meetings, which report back to the main Governing body.
