Our EthosSt John's is an independent school providing a first class academic education for boys and girls from the age of 3 to 16 Years. The aims of the school are to encourage its pupils to realise fully all aspects of their individual potential and to respect personal, moral and religious values.
St. John's School
At St John's we welcome children of all abilities. We have a policy of a maximum of 16 pupils in each class; our small class sizes, enable us to educate and motivate pupils individually. For each child we build on their individual strengths enabling them to achieve the highest level of success possible. Our results speak for themselves and consistently place St John's School at the forefront of academic achievement. Through a caring, disciplined framework, we seek to develop confidence and leadership as well as ensuring academic success. We have consistently achieved some of the best GCSE results in Wales over the last 5 Years. Our fully committed, dedicated and first-class teachers have ensured that 100% of our pupils achieved 5 or more pass rate grades A*-C in their GCSE Exams in 2003, 2004 and 2005. At St John's the crucial elements of our success are providing each child with individual attention, combining the best of traditional methods and sound modern educational practice, together with the continuous professional development of all our staff members. We ensure that our highly qualified teachers stay at the top of their profession. We apply specialist teachers to all core subjects, right from Our School has a unique and distinctive family atmosphere, pupils instantly feel at ease and secure, all helping to make St John's a happy and friendly environment. Our vigorous school community brings out the best in our pupils; here strong friendships are formed, often for life. We place great emphasis on pastoral care so that all pupils can learn and play in a happy atmosphere. Here at St John's we start teaching languages from an early age, unlike most other schools in Wales; we begin the introduction of French from the age of 7 and German from the age of 9. The benefits of starting languages this early are not only excellent results at GCSE, but also confidence in speaking and accuracy in pronunciation. Research has shown that children are at their most receptive to new languages while they are young. Social skills are developed in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding. We encourage wider interaction with the local community through voluntary work, sport and developing citizenship. We place emphasis on good behaviour, self discipline, courtesy and respect for others. Sport
We have the highest levels of achievement in sport and our superb campus facilities are matched by the dedication, commitment and encouragement of our coaches. We try to ensure that all our pupils participate in team sports, these include football, netball, rugby, tennis, hockey, cricket and rounders. Our pupils compete with other local schools from an early age. As well as our team sports activities we undertake a full athletics programme, including field sports and cross country, we also hold our popular annual swimming gala. Here we aim to keep our pupils fit, so from nursery right through to Year 11 all our pupils have Physical Education classes as well as their sports lessons. Extra Curricular ActivitiesSporting activities make up a good proportion of the supervised extra-curricular activities that we offer, however we cater for all interests. We have very popular extra-curricular clubs that change every term, this gives the children the opportunity to participate in many varied activities, such as arts & crafts, football, golf, bookworm club and much more. These activities are combined with a homework club, such that after-school supervision and care is available up until 17:30. This allows us to support working parents and provide further opportunities for pupils to develop to their full potential. Tea is provided for all children doing extra-curricular activities. Holiday ClubOutside term-time we have a very popular Holiday Club, which caters for St John's pupils from Nursery all the way up to Year 6 (ages 3 -11). This is run by qualified staff and is a safe and fun place for your children to be, either for the occasional session or full time throughout the school holidays. We believe this is an invaluable facility for working parents. We aim to make this time a fun time for the children, with lots of outings and activities; for example a trip to Caerleon Roman Fortress, where everyone can be Roman soldiers and ladies for the day, visits from the Paint a Pot art café where the children are able to paint pots with their own designs. Every interest and age group is catered for with football and dancing competitions, going to the park and feeding the ducks, Art & Craft and very much more. TransportWe provide daily transport from a variety of catchment areas, reaching from as far as Swansea, Pencoed and Cowbridge and encompassing many drop off points on route. LunchesHealthy and nutritional packed lunches are available. The menu was carefully planned by a qualified nutritionist and is aimed at providing a balanced, nourishing and varied meal.
