Welcome to The Friends of St John's School - What We Do

We are effectively the PTA of the school and our aim is to raise funds through fun events in order to purchase equipment and facilities which will benefit all the children at the school. There is a very friendly, family atmosphere at St John’s and the Friends are delighted to be a part of it!

The Committee and How We Operate
We are fortunate to have a strong and dedicated committee and are currently 13 in number but we are always on the look out for new recruits! Details of our Committee Members are set out in this attached link. We meet usually once a term in the school library where everyone is welcome and we have our own noticeboard at the school. We also have our own section in the fortnightly school newsletter which is an ideal forum for publicising our forthcoming events and for general communication with all parents and children.

Fun Events
Our main annual fundraising events are a black tie Christmas Ball with exciting auction, a colourful Christmas Bazaar in the school sports hall, a lively spring Barn Dance and a sizzling Summer Fete and Barbecue on the school playing fields. On a more regular basis we run a weekly Friday video club which lends out videos to pupils and also sells healthy drinks, delicious fresh fruit snacks and popcorn. Each term we also hold a themed disco for the children in the school sports hall and we also organise sales of nearly new uniform. Add to this the odd non-fundraising social evening and you will see that we are quite busy!!

Funds Raised
We have been able to make some fabulous purchases with the funds we’ve raised and in the 3 years to 31 August 2007 (our financial year end) we have actually spent £31,456 on equipment and facilities for the school.
This amount includes deposits on two new minibuses, school logo artwork on the buses, refurbishment of a second science laboratory, new dining room furniture, two new fridges, equipment for refurbishment of the school library and staff room, musical instruments, books, goalposts, new school prospectus and stationery, new classroom chairs, school diaries for pupils, two televisions for language laboratories, house t-shirts for pupils and staff, and ride on toys for the nursery.
We are delighted that the list is so long! We do know however that this is only made possible by the generous support of parents, families and friends and by the enthusiasm, commitment and hard work of The Friends Committee.

Joining In
Everyone is welcome to all our events and to join The Friends Committee. We are here to have fun as well as raise money and it is a great way of meeting other parents, pupils and staff.
Our work is always rewarded with the obvious delight and pride on the children’s faces whether they are attending a fundraising event at their school or enjoying new equipment which we have purchased.

We look forward to welcoming you!
