At the end of last term, Year 7 performed ‘The Gruffalo’, Year 8 ‘Roald Dahl’s Cinderella and Year 9 ‘ Rupert Scrooge’. Years 4, 5 and 6 performed some Christmas poems.

Well, St. David would be very proud of us. What an Eisteddfod! Congratulations and a huge THANK YOU to everyone who took part so enthusiastically.
The day began with the Pre Prep who sang, danced and told us the sad story of the Maid of Sker with such energy. I
particularly loved the Early Years Unit’s song—fantastic! Then what a feast of entertainment from the Prep and Senior Departments. We heard super performances from vocalists, instrumentalists, pianists, guitarists and drummers of all ages and a beautiful duet from Alicia Cooke and Martha Sanders. Then dramatic renditions for Years 8 & 9 in their plays telling the legends of St. David, the Red Bandits, Black Beauty and Rebecca’s Daughters—a bit like the King’s speech but much better.
After that we had Yrs 4 & 5 energetic French songs with such enthusiasm, complete with skipping ropes and the
occasional ’ows’ Year 6 ‘little duckies’ were splendid, Year 7 marvellously portrayed a French lesson in French whilst Year 8 caused much laughter with their German lessons in German. Poor teachers!!
Following this, Year 9’s enthusiastic presentation on Stephanie’s hometown, Vienna so well. Charlotte Smith and Thomas Skalitzky-Newman’s elegant waltz, will be long remembered, what good spots! Year 9’s very different bilingual versions of Edelweiss were amazing and so well presented. Congratulations to Varun! The individual recitations took our breath away and what better ending than to hear that Hugh Perkins was our new Bard—not bad!!
Then the final showdown—the house choir competition—amazing. Well done everyone and thank you William Davies and Stefan Farmer our conductors. On top of all this were competitions in so many subjects which we could view all around the hall. It was indeed an inspiring occasion which the children really enjoyed. A big thank you to all our
adjudicators, peripatetic music teachers and the Friends for our marvellous new music stands (with lights). Our highlights evening was very special. Our children showed such talent and great behaviour. They showed respect for each other throughout the week which is why they are able to perform so confidently. Thank you to everyone who attended. The children love performing for you—as was evident! Thank you also to Thomas Brown and Elisabeth David who introduced each act so warmly. The Pre Prep St. David’s Day concert was funny and super—well done to you all!

• Thomas Skalitzky-Newman, Stefan Farmer, Annabelle Morgan and Chloe Atkinson who rehearsed so hard for the BYT performance of Mulan. Unfortunately it had to be cancelled but it is rescheduled for August.

On Tuesday 27th April we were able to enjoy a Brass demonstration by the owner of CAVMS music, John Leech. He showed and played us the cornet, trumpet, French horn, euphonium and trombone. Samuel Bevan then tried the cornet – very successfully! Everyone enjoyed and appreciated John’s lively personality. At present we have 4 brass players in our school, who are all very fine musicians. We also have a very highly regarded Brass teacher, Mr. Terry Lax. We also have teachers for strings, saxophone, flute, guitar, percussion and piano. We have a waiting list at present for drum and piano lessons.

On Tuesday 2nd May Yrs 6 & 8 will be attending an integrated arts day. Each group will spend a ½ day in St. David’s Hall in a Gamelan workshop and a further ½ in the museum’s art galleries. Everyone is very excited at the prospect.

Good luck to all musicians practicing hard for all this term’s external exams
