We aim to educate the whole child by developing confidence, a sense of responsibility and self-worth, and this is achieved through small classes, dedicated teaching staff and a unique friendly atmosphere. We are pleased to be able to offer a limited number of scholarships for new pupils entering into the Senior Department in September 2010. If you feel that your child may not achieve the results he or she is capable of in their current environment and would benefit from a high level of individual attention and support, then this is a fantastic opportunity! If you are interested in applying for a scholarship place please e-mail us with your contact details and also your postal address if you wish to receive a prospectus, or phone the school office 01656 783404. As part of this project our partner schools will be visiting us between the 28th and 30th January. These schools are located in Turkey, Iceland, Germany and Ireland. To celebrate this visit we are holding a concert based on the Comenius themes of respect, knowledge and understanding of others. The concert is being held on Thursday 28th January at 5.00pm and is expected to last about an hour. It will involve all pupils from Years 4 to 9. Pupils in those years are therefore expected to attend and you should contact myself via the office if this is not possible. All parents, friends and family are invited.Mrs C Clint Headmistress NEWS LETTERIf you are already a parent of the school you should have received your copy, but if you haven't, or you are not a parent of the school, please click here for this week's newsletter or here to view previous editions and download your copyTerm dates 2010/2011Dear Parents,Please see attached information about term dates for 2010/2011. I hope that this advance notice can be used if necessary to plan other family commitments. I would ask that you honour the term dates and only in extreme circumstances request leave of absence for holidays during term time. Pupils miss valuable work if they are absent in teaching time and this can therefore impede their progress. Thank you for your support. Mrs. C. ST JOHN’S BUCKS THE ECONOMIC TRENDThe building was opened by TV and radio presenter Roy Noble, who entertained the partygoers with tales of his time as a schoolboy and as a Headmaster. The old building had been demolished and the new building completed during the school’s Summer holiday and children from Nursery to Year 3 classes had been excited to see their new classrooms on the first day of term. Mrs Karen Price, head of the school’s Early Years Unit, said “We are delighted with ur new classrooms and the facilities for the children; to see their faces on their first day back was a joy!” There was also more to celebrate as the school had seen its largest intake of pupils at the start of the Autumn Term in over a decade. Mrs Carol Clint, Headmistress, said “At a time when many other schools and businesses are being adversely affected by the economic downturn, we are clearly bucking the trend. It is a true testament to the quality of the teaching at St John’s and the value of the all-round experience that an education at St John’s brings. I believe that parents are realising that it is important to give their children an advantage by investing in independent education which will give them a competitive edge in the future. Over the past few years we have seen a steady increase in our pupil numbers, and we are delighted this term to see so many new pupils join our unique school which has very much the feel of a small community. We are truly independent as the school is a registered charity, and as such we are completely committed to the education and care of our pupils. We were pleased to receive a very favourable inspection report which praised the outstanding personal, social and learning skills of our pupils and the positive attitudes and values that are encouraged by the school.” St John's uniform is now available to order online The Famous1886.comThe school uniform can now be ordered directly on line from our suppliers by following the link provided. How to Order. Funding is achieved through private donations, corporate sponsorship and from other Charitable Trusts and Foundations. For further information, or to make a donation, please visit the Foundation website Caroline Sarll: We must lift our children out of linguistic povertyIt could only be in the Sarll household that you would hear the following: "Dad! Daaa-aaad! Mum wants me to tell you that your eye is getting cold!" Daughter No 2 then returns to the dining table, oblivious of her faux pas, and gets on with eating her own "eye" – complete with soldiers for dipping. Yummy.
